Hi, Rachelle! I was wondering if you’ve spoken at length on the stack about gymnema sylvestre for curbing sugar cravings. I listened to your recent pod about blood sugar stability, but I am curious what you think of using gymnema sylvestre (I also recall fenugreek is good for this, though I do not remember its specific properties) in the short-term to curb sugar cravings, for non-diabetics. What are the dangers, if any (I see some talk online from unreliable sources that spikes in blood pressure can occur)? Thanks in advance! -Eve

This is a wonderful herb! I love it, and my clients have as well. "The contraindications aren't generally severe but are the following: Carefully monitor blood sugar levels if using Gymnema with insulin or any other medication for diabetes (because both work to lower blood sugar). Avoid use in people with hypoglycemia. Be mindful when combining with prescription medications (Gymnema has been shown to modestly alter phenacetin metabolism

and, to a greater degree, decreased tolbutamide clearance). This suggests that it can affect CYP1A2 and CYP2C9 in rats. Whether it can cause clinically significant herb/drug interactions in humans is unknown."
