Hi Rachelle! I’m late to the conversation, but could you talk more about chaga and its benefits? I have been taking chaga—specifically the one Anima Mundi makes—every day, per the recommended dose of 1 tsp. I usually mix it into my oatmeal or an herbal coffee substitute. I started taking it for my immune health and because, according to the label, it helps to lower LDL, and even though I am a vegetarian and consume very little eggs, my LDL is genetically rather high. However, I’ve read that chaga also helps with stress/cortisol levels. I have not really noticed this benefit. (For some background, I practice other daily stress-management techniques including yoga, meditation, and some other form of exercise, but I am more of an anxious bunny.)

Is chaga similar to ashwagandha, in that it must be taken daily for months before one notices these mood-related benefits? Is 1 tsp too low of a dose? I’d love to hear any and all thoughts you have about chaga.

Hi Eve! I was just digging out my personal stash of chaga yesterday for an upcoming workshop. I'd love to dive into it more. I've added this to the queue and will share all of my notes on its stress benefits (and related) asap. Thanks for asking!

I'm back with another q! My partner fractured her s4 (sacral vertebrae) over the weekend and I'm curious what herbs may support bone health and pain! Thank you! <3

Ouch! Okay a couple things right away: Last week's session was all about bone health + musculoskeletal support. Did you get to listen to that one? There's also this article (caveat, it's really old!) that I wrote about healing broken bones, after I broke my elbow: https://www.ursupernatural.com/topics/how-to-heal-a-broken-bone-95-faster-than-the-doctors-orders?rq=bone. You might also like to listen to this episode for more on pain: https://ursupernatural.substack.com/p/91-recording-herbs-for-skin-issues

All that said, I can speak more to herbal supports for broken bones, and more on pain related to acute injuries and surgeries so I've added that to our queue for the asap future!

Hi Rachelle, I was wondering if you’ve dealt with patients who developed peripheral neuropathy post COVID. And if so if there are any particular herbs that might help. I deal with numbness in my extremities and it’s become quite uncomfortable with some days being worse than others.

Thanks in advance!

Daniela

Hi Daniela! I have worked with some clients on peripheral neuropathy but none specifically post COVID that come to mind. Nevertheless, I'll dive into the topic for you. I trust you have already listened to the past episodes about COVID? Tinnitus is another topic to search for and listen in on if you haven't yet, as it's often treated similarly (though not exactly) like peripheral neuropathy. Adding this to our queue now. Thanks for asking!

Hi! Question regarding Ashwagandha. Have you experienced or know of anyone experiencing sadness after taking it for awhile and stopping. A long time ago I took Moon Juice's superyou and when I stopped, I noticed I felt pretty blue and normalized after awhile. More recently, I have been taking Rasa bold and was loving it. However, I have run out of it and have noticed I am crying a lot more than usual. Wondering if this is from the lack of support from the herbs, Ashwagandha or some other, or if life just has been down 🙃 Thank you as always!

Hi Carolyn! This is an interesting experience. (I'm sorry you're crying!) It's entirely possible that the stress is causing the emotionality, and you're feeling it more strongly without the herbs. There isn't a withdrawal effect from ashwagandha or the ingredients in Rasa, so it's not that. But I'd ask, as I always do, what seems to be the cause? Are you crying at sad moments, which may actually be a good thing? Is it a helpful release? Or is it overwhelm, stress, burnout?

Good to know there isn't a withdrawal effect! The Rasa Bold was SUPER impactful in the beginning. I was SO intensely happy and feeling SO good. Almost, obnoxiously so. I was telling everyone who would listen that they need to take Rasa. My acupuncturist said I sounded like a paid spokesperson 😂 I think that seemingly abnormal high (which lasted maybe two weeks) led me to think that I was super sensitive to it and so the low after stopping made sense to me. Anyhoo, it's all very interesting and I'll have to try out another cycle in a bit to see what happens. Also, I'm 44 and perimenopausal, so perhaps my hormones are getting the best of me....🤷🏻‍♀️

"Are you crying at sad moments, which may actually be a good thing?" THIS is interesting. I never think of crying as a good thing, I'm so glad you have said this! It is a real aha movement for me! It's funny how in ones day to day life it can be hard to zoom out, but these questions are super helpful in helping me see the bigger picture. Lots to ponder! :) THANK YOUUUUU

Tired of taking so many different vitamin supplements. D, B, C, magnesium…. It would be wonderful to simplify.

Hi Rachelle,

Would appreciate your thoughts on using magnesium spray or lotion as a sleep aid. Are there any brands you prefer? Please also include any dosing instructions, as well as if there are any added ingredients to stay away from.

Thank you!

Ah yes, magnesium! I just posted a video about it on IG today and am about to share a DEEP dive into it via a new project, very soon. Meanwhile, I wouldn't recommend topical magnesium as a sleep aid. That's a great way to get it's muscle-relaxing effects but for sleep, we really want a higher dose and different form than can be applied topically. My go-to for years has been magnesium glycinate (https://rachellerobinett.metagenics.com/mag-glycinate). L-threonate is also powerful; it's used for brain health, mental health, mood, anxiety, and related (https://rachellerobinett.metagenics.com/mag-l-threonate).

Hi over there in Brooklyn....waving from the west of Ireland

Recently I became overwhelmed with severe case of vertigo. Couldn’t raise my head from bathroom floor for 3 days. Nausea, wrenching, the whole gambit. Blocked Eustachian tube, still, 2 weeks on, head cold & irritant cough.Luckily I got an injection of stemetol to help vertigo symptoms. 70 improvement Today I even got dressed!!!

Where do I begin to-regain strength, eating more raw foods? Drinking plenty of water. What supplements teas herbs would you suggest to try to loosen Eustachian tube and suppress the irritating, keeping us awake cough. Thank you 💗 -Christine

Hi Rachelle,

My father has a failing kidney, he has been recommended to register for a kidney transplant and if worse comes to worse, dialysis. They predict that his kidney will completely fail in about a year. Any herbs that he can take to support his kidneys? Just as an FYI - he does have high blood pressure and also had Coronary artery bypass grafting. Thanks so much and looking forward to any recommendations.

Ru, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's situation. Someone close to me has been in a similar situation recently too. For kidney health, David Winston swears by nettle seed, and I trust him. He has two products you may want to consider: https://www.herbalist-alchemist.com/shop-products-nts-stinging-nettle-seed-extract and https://www.herbalist-alchemist.com/shop-products-ksc-kidney-support-compound. They are the best I know of for this need!

Dear Rachelle, what would you suggest for Hyperthyroidism? And thyroid eye disease? Is the main cause of thyroid issues a malfunctioning immune system?

Hi Sarah! I've added hyperthyroidism to our queue for asap, but most immediately I'd direct you to my class on Herbalism for Thyroid health. If accessible, that's the most comprehensive source of info on the topic I've ever created. https://www.ursupernatural.com/shop-all/p/holistic-herbal-protocol-for-thyroid-balance While there is often a connection between thyroid and immune imbalances (e.g. Hashimoto's), the thyroid is affected by many things and it's not always an immune-related trigger. For example, excess iodine is a very common cause of hyperthyroidism. I'll dig in more, soon!
