What should I consider when planning the timing and pairing of supplements to ensure best absorption? For example, I know ashwaganda is better absorbed with fat, but does my morning coffee interfere? I'd love to hear some ideas on how to investigate this to tweak my routine of when to take what. Thanks!

Breakfast. What is the best breakfast you can be eating that is balanced, plant based and keeps you full without too many powders. Thanks!!

If possible, could you expand on this (staying full) to included all meals? I find when I eat mostly veggies and no animal protein, I get pretty hungry soon after. Maybe my ghrelin hormone is out of whack? How do you stay full? :) Also, I think you mentioned you eat mostly plants, high carb and low fat. I may have gotten that wrong, but if not, I would love to know what you mean by low fat. If you limit nuts, olive oils etc. Lastly, I'm really enjoying show and tell! Such a fun way to start the session :) Thank YOUUUUU

Hi Carolyn! Yayyyy re: show & tell. I'm enjoying it too, so glad the feeling's mutual. :D Also love this question and am happy to dig into it. I do eat HCLF, you got that right, and while I've done just about every (reasonable) diet out there, I return time and again to this one as such an optimal way to eat/live. I'll get more specific about the ingredients in an upcoming chat. It includes lots of fiber, and not being afraid to eat a LOT of produce.

Hi Natalie! Didn't want to keep you waiting with a reply here so I grabbed this article, which outlines my main recommendations for both treating and preventing colds & flus. https://www.ursupernatural.com/topics/immunity-upleveled?rq=immunity If you have more questions about it, let me know and I can talk through in more detail in the next live session. Hope it helps!

Thank you so much! That's very helpful! The only question would be re oregano oil - how to take it? (form, dosage, any other tips)

Ah yes, that's a strong one! I always keep it in my first-aid kit. Just a couple of drops is enough (daily when sick or preventing illness). The taste is pretty awful so capsules could also be a good idea, though I've only ever used the drops. Stay well!

Hi Natalie, Just wanted to share that I recently had great success with Gaia's "Quick Defense" supplements when I felt a cold coming on. It has Echinacea, Black Elderberry, Ginger, and Andrographis. It is not cheap as you need to take 2 pills 5x , but worth it to prevent the cold from taking hold! Rachelle carries Gaia products in her shop, so you may be able to find it there:)

Hi Chantal, I developed tinnitus after the covid V and found that when I was really on top of maintaining optimal blood sugar levels, it went away. If your tinnitus was triggered by loud music, that may be a different story, but thought I would share in case it could help you :)

Hi Carolyn

I developed tinnitus after a period of severe stress. It was in February 2021 .. I could make it manageable eating plant based, reducing alcohol and cafeïne and resting as much as I could / can ..

How did you maintain your blood sugar level ? And how did you know your levels were ok or not ?

Thanks for your reply .. Tinnitus is a mysterious symptom .. I hope Rachelle brings some herbal suggestions to try to fight tinnitus 🙏🏼

Hi Chantal,

I'm sorry to hear about your period of severe stress! The past few years sure have been trying :S I am not a Dr. just sharing what I found helpful. Def. check out Rachelle's tips on blood sugar, they are super helpful. They are similar to what I was following, which was "glucose goddess" on instagram. Basically, the order in which you eat your food seems to play a role in insulin spikes. Apple cider vinegar before meals, a little walk/movement after meals. And I think really reducing flour based foods. I thought I was eating pretty healthy before, but Rachelle pointed out most people are eating too many flour based foods. i.e. gluten free pancakes, gluten free crackers etc. I noticed big changes in not only my tinnitus, but overall aches and stiffness went away when I cut the crap. I have not used a continuous glucose monitor (if you have the means, it seems like a great way to see how your body responds to foods) but I do get regular blood work and monthly glucose screenings at the farmers market. My blood sugar has come down a lot since I implemented these things.

I attended an online talk on tinnitus by Dr. Shaowen Bao (he also suffers from it!), an associate professor of neuroscience and physiology at the University of Arizona and he thinks neuro-inflammation is the issue. So, I guess doing what you can to lower inflammation. Dr. Bao also mentioned when he ate better, that his tinnitus went down as well. I was surprised to hear a conventional Dr. make that connection!

Best of luck to you! I know how challenging tinnitus can be :( Let me know if you notice any positive changes :)

Best,

Carolyn

Hi Rachelle, is it okay to take melatonin and vitex for long term? Thanks!

Hi Nicole! Vitex is great longterm (we say minimum three to six months to see the effects). I use it personally and it's been some years now. Melatonin though is questionable for long-term use. There are differences of opinion on it but I tend to like Matthew Walker. Here's a video of him discussing melatonin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZLo5N3vco8

What do you think about HRT? Is it safe?

Expand full comment
author

Hi Nicole! I'll answer this one here rather than in the live session, because my answer is fairly simple. While there are some risks to HRT, they tend to be outweighed by the benefits for most women. It's a personal choice of course, and can be made from perspectives other than health-only, so not one we can say certainly do or don't-do. If someone is compelled to do it, I recommend a great doctor (who knows much more than I do). It can be a great thing when done right. I hope that helps!
